See our full upcoming schedule below.

NEXT: Join us for our first workshop of the new year! In case you don’t already know, we’re out at the farm all year long, and winter projects include seasonal fruit tree care. Come learn about it.

Winter Fruit Tree Pruning
Saturday, January 13 — 10 a.m. to Noon at Alemany Farm
Instructors: Hannah Shulman and Nick Hoff

Learn the basics of pruning fruit trees in this hands-on, interactive class! We’ll walk you through everything you need to know to understand how to maximize your tree’s potential for maximum fruit. We’ll focus on winter pruning, do a demonstration, and then allow you to do some hands-on practice on Alemany Farm’s very own apple trees. Participants have the option of joining our regular volunteer workday following the workshop.

Hannah Shulman is a graduate of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz. Previously, she was a garden educator with Urban Sprouts, GFE, and 18 Reasons / BiRite Market, and ran the first urban agriculture program for the city of San Francisco. She is now the Director of Programs at Education Outside.

Nick Hoff has been a member of the Friends of Alemany Farm since 2011, where, for the past five years, he has co-stewarded the farm’s over 150 fruit trees and helped oversee the planting of over 70 new trees.

Register for the workshop.

Our workshop series offers both farm newcomers and regular volunteers a chance to deepen your knowledge, explore a new skill, or pick up some tips and ideas you can apply in your own garden or kitchen. All workshops will take place at the farm.

Suggested donation per workshop is $20 per person; no one turned away for lack of funds. All donations will benefit Friends of Alemany Farm via our fiscal sponsor, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. You can pay with cash or check at the workshop. Checks should be payable to San Francisco Parks Alliance.

ALSO: Don’t forget about our Indiegogo campaign! We’ve sent you a few updates in recent weeks; if you’ve donated or helped spread the word already, thank you. If not, please consider supporting us! We are at close to half of our goal, with just a little over a week to go, so whatever you are able to give makes a difference. We appreciate your support as we continue to grow the farm. If you’ve donated already, and want to claim more perks, you can always donate again!
