Alemany Farm’s Volunteer Project Leader Becky Sutton gives a description of the work on the farm in 2005

The goal of the Alemany Farm Project is to inspire, educate and empower San Franciscans about the possibilities, benefits and techniques of growing food in our own city. We maintain a large herb garden, vegetable garden and orchard and hold regularly scheduled workdays with a wide range of volunteers. We distribute what we grow amongst the volunteers and families from the Alemany subsidized housing community who subscribe to our free produce delivery service. We engage in outreach to diverse communities to make the project broadly accessible. We prioritize agricultural education as an important element in urban sustainability.
