Fall Workshops, Rise for Climate March, and more

Dear Farm Friends,

Save the date:  Our annual Alemany Farm Harvest Festival will take place on Saturday, October 20, 11 am – 4 pm, at the farm. More details to come!

Save another date:  Friends of Alemany Farm – along with many other organizations – is endorsing the Rise for Climate March, which will take place in SF on Saturday, September 8. We’re canceling our workday that weekend and we encourage you to participate in the march! If you plan to attend, march organizers ask you to RSVP in order to document what they expect will be tens of thousands of participants.

We’re calling it our Fall Workshop Series, but it starts in August and continues into October. We hope you will take a look at the range of sessions on offer and consider joining us for one or more. Please register in advance, and feel free to share with your networks. There is a suggested donation of $20 for our workshops, which benefits Friends of Alemany Farm via our fiscal sponsor, the San Francisco Parks Alliance.

First up, a chance to join others in a little harvesting, a little cooking, and some eating, all on the farm:

Cooking from the Summer Garden
Sunday August 19th, 10 am – 12 pm at Alemany Farm
Instructors: Evanthia Skalkos and Daniel Ishofsky

Farm to Table dining is rooted in the Bay Area. Well, it turns out that we have both a farm and a table. Come experience the summertime bounty cropping up on the farm with this hands-on harvest and cooking workshop, culminating in sharing a four course meal together. In this workshop we will learn about summer vegetables, do a farm harvest, discuss the benefits of eating seasonally, and cook and share a meal together in our outdoor kitchen. Nutritional aspects will be discussed, along with the benefits of incorporating plant-based foods into our diets.

Evan Skalkos has been an active volunteer and Friend of Alemany Farm for the past 2 years. She enjoys getting her hands in the dirt on a regular basis and appreciates the ability to see the food cycle in its entirety. One of her true passions is growing healthy, organic food and transforming it into tasty, nutritious plant-based meals. Join her as she shares this passion for fun and tasty treats on the Farm this summer!

Space is limited so please register in advance.
Please bring your own cutting board and knife.
