Afternoon Snack this Saturday + upcoming Natives Workshop

Dear Farm Friends,

Please join us for this Saturday’s workday (August 8), which will include an afternoon snack in our outdoor kitchen! Cecilia, one of our volunteers, will be prepping and sharing some yummy dishes from Puglia, Sicilia, and Sardegna regions of their native Italy. The midsummer days have been lovely at the farm — come out, pitch in with some garden work, then enjoy a late afternoon bite to eat and some community. We want to make this a periodic feature of our workdays, to give different volunteers a chance to share their food heritage — so please come out to support and learn!

Cecilia welcomes assistance from a couple of interested volunteers: If you want to help in the kitchen this Saturday with prepping, serving, and cleanup (and sharing some food knowledge), please contact us at community.gardeners@gmail.com.

We have a wide array of native plants in various areas of the farm—many of them in flower right now. This workshop will give you a chance to take a closer look at these plants that are so beautifully adapted to our region.

Native Plant Landscaping for the Bay Area
Sunday, August 16, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Instructors: Jim Cartan & Vicki Wilderman
This workshop will focus on how native plants can be used to enhance yards and gardens or other spaces. Join these experienced native plant stewards to explore the native areas at the Farm and learn about the benefits of and various uses for drought tolerant native plants. Bring your curiosity and your questions!
Jim Cartan is manager of Alemany Farm’s native plant demonstration garden, and Vicki Wilderman is a volunteer co-manager of Alemany Farm.
