Our next workshop: Native Plants for the Bay Area

Dear Farm Friends,

Pencil the date in now:  October 22 will be Alemany Farm’s 12th Annual Harvest Festival. Details to come in the fall, but figure on a delicious bbq and potluck picnic, live music, our traditional garlic planting, and more.

But join us before then, while the days are still long and the farm is full of greenery and blossoms.  We’ve had some lovely community workdays recently, with new faces and old friends stopping by to spend some time and expend some energy.

On the heels of our very successful first workshop of the season, we’re happy to announce our next workshop, which will focus on native plants.  Especially if you’re new to the Bay Area, or new to gardening, this workshop offers a chance to deepen your knowledge of our region by learning about the plants that have been growing here for centuries.  See how we use native plants at Alemany Farm, and get ideas for using natives in your own home or garden.

Native Plant Landscaping for the Bay Area
Sunday, August 21, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Instructor: Jim Cartan
This workshop will focus on how native plants can be used to enhance yards and gardens or other spaces. Join this experienced native plant steward to explore the native areas at the Farm and learn about the benefits of and various uses for drought tolerant native plants. Bring your curiosity and your questions!
Jim Cartan is manager of Alemany Farm’s native plant demonstration garden.
