Dear Farm Friends,
Join us at the farm to plant fruit trees in celebration of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 18! We will celebrate this Day of Service with an extensive fruit tree planting to grow the orchard and provide fruit for future generations. Workday is 12-5pm. Come prepared to work outside. No experience needed.
In addition, join the city’s Urban Agriculture Program Coordinator Hannah Shulman for a Winter Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop on Alemany’s older trees from 2-4pm.
Learn the basics of fruit tree pruning and how to begin properly managing the size, production, and structure of your tree or orchard. This basic class will give a background on fruit trees and their growth cycle, and we’ll focus on winter pruning techniques to stimulate growth for the new year. The class will be held outside with a live demonstration and possible hands-on practice opportunities.
Hannah Shulman is the Urban Agriculture Program Coordinator at the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. She studied at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz, and has been a garden educator with Urban Sprouts, Garden for the Environment, and 18 Reasons/BiRite Market.
NOTE: Workshop is limited to a small number of participants, so RSVPs are required by 1/13. The event will be held regardless of weather conditions unless there is a severe rainstorm.
How to Register for Workshops:
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us your name(s) and the name of the workshop(s) you’d like to attend.
