Dancing and Farming

Dear Farm Friends:

Spring is in full effect at Alemany Farm! We’ve already dug up and hung to dry the first half of our garlic crop. The squash are starting to bust out with fruits, and our spring onions are big and sweet. Nearly every bed in the garden is packed with crops that are bursting amid the ever-lengthening days.

So come on out and get your hands dirty at these upcoming workdays:

Sunday May 19, Noon to 5 PM. Forget the Bay to Breaker hijinks! Come and chill-ax in the garden. Includes work in our native plant garden.
Monday, May 20, 1 PM to 5 PM.
Saturday May 25, Noon to 5 PM.
Monday, May 27, 1 PM to 5 PM. Spend your Memorial Day afternoon in the gardens and orchards!
Sunday, June 2, 1 PM to 5 PM.

Also, we’re very flattered and excited to be chosen as the non-profit beneficiary of a great local dance: Here Now Dance Collective

The collective’s new piece, “This Is Dedicated…,” is a fundraising dance theater game for 4 dancers, with rules, a referee, and a live DJ. HNDC dancer Sarah Gould has chosen us as her beneficiary organization, and she will stretch her dancing ability and stamina to the limit to raise funds for Friends of Alemany Farm by trying to accumulate as much time “in play” as possible.

Performance dates are:
Fri, May 24, 12:30pm: Annie Alley, SF (Free outdoor performance as part of SPUR Festival)
June 21 & 22, 8pm/June 23, 7pm: CounterPULSE Theater, 9th St. and Mission, SF (Sliding scale admission starting at $15 will help support Alemany Farm!)

Visit http://herenowdancecollective.com/ to find out how you can support Team Sarah and Friends of Alemany Farm by purchasing a ticket or making a pledge. Reserve a ticket for the CounterPULSE performances in June and support local farming AND the local dance scene! Save the date and spread the word!

We hope to see you in the garden or at the dance performances.

Thanks, as always, for all of your work to make SF more food secure.

The Farm Team
